This two day course is aimed at staff who work with children who have difficulties with communication and processing language. It will help them to support pupils with receptive and expressive language difficulties.

Course participants will learn:

·        The processes involved in communication and the development of attention skills

·        How to use information carrying words (ICWs) to support verbal comprehension

·        How to use mind maps and other visual tools effectively in the classroom

·        How to modify their language to enable all children to develop their verbal reasoning skills and so access the curriculum

·        How to close the word gap and develop vocabulary learning

·        The development of expressive language and how to model and encourage the use of sentences

·        How to support pupils to sequence ideas and tell stories along with the development of social skills

·        The link between spoken language and literacy
