All children in Year 4 will have their multiplication skills formally tested in the summer term of Year 4 from 2020.

Is your school preparing for this? Do you have strategies in place to teach time tables in your maths lessons as well as practise them? The education secretary has announced that pupils will sit their times tables check in year 4, rather than in year 6 as originally planned. Schools will now be expected to administer the tests to their year 4 pupils from 2019-20. These checks are to 'aid children's fluency in mathematics' DfE July 2017

During the sessions course participants will:

·        have a clear understanding of the essential models, images and approaches required to effectively teach multiplication tables

·        learn strategies for developing fluency in preparation for the test

This twilight will support teachers and mathematics subject leaders to review their current provision for teaching times tables by the end of year 4. We will share systems, strategies and practical resources to support the learning of these number facts in preparation for the national, statutory test.
